Margaret Townshend, 81, pictured, has been a faithful National supporter since she was 14 - and this year was no exception.
She first worked as a scrutineer at the age of about 15 and this year delivered pamphlets, knocked on doors and manned the phones in an effort to support Tauranga MP Simon Bridges.
"It was a bit nerve-racking really because of all the nasty things that have gone on out there. It's one of the worst ones I've worked on anyway."
It was her belief in the party philosophy that kept her going and she hoped to be just as active in the 2017 election - "if I'm still here".
The Tauranga resident, who spent 17 years living in Te Puna, watched new National MP Todd Muller grow up and said she was looking forward to watching his progress as he entered Parliament.
