A kayaker has been taken to Tauranga Hospital after being rescued near Papamoa, suffering hypothermia.
Tauranga Coastguard received a call about 11am from a boat which had come across the kayaker in trouble, about 3kms offshore from Papamoa camp ground, operations manager Simon Barker said.
Mr Barker said the man had been in the water for some time when he was spotted and brought back to shore.
The man was taken to Pilot Bay, where he was met by police and St John ambulance officers who helped treat him for hypothermia, Mr Barker said.
