Bad weather did not deter about 25 teaching staff from standing outside the National candidates' office on Devonport Rd this morning.
Tauranga NZEI members, which included teachers and principals of local primary and secondary schools, gathered in front of the office from 7.30am to 8am this morning for NZEI's Day of Action.
Merivale School principal Jan Tinetti said the group was trying to raise awareness of the inadequacies around the Government's policy of $359 million being used to create new leadership and management roles within schools.
Ms Tinetti said the group were holding signs that read "stand up for a better plan", and handed out leaflets to people who wanted to know more about the Government's policy.
The Day of Action was held throughout the country outside MPs offices.
NZEI National President Judith Nowotarski said school communities delivered letters asking for cross party support for education initiatives that will target the real needs of children.
"Primary teachers and principals have voted overwhelmingly to reject the government's controversial plan to spend $359m on a new management framework that will not directly benefit children's education.
"We have a much better plan and we want the government to spend the money where it's really needed - to improve student learning rather than imposing a top-down, one size fits all model on schools."
