3.55pm: Vector are working to clamp a split gas main after it was hit by a digger on Maxwells Rd this afternoon.

People remain evacuated from three homes nearby and will remain away from their homes until Vector had the leak controlled.


3pm: A domestic gas main is leaking after being hit by a digger on Maxwells Rd this afternoon.

Fire service spokesman Colin Underdown said fire crews were evacuating people from their homes down-wind of 68 Maxwells Rd.

Police were liasing with Pillans Point school about whether to evacuate or hold them inside as it was the end of the school day, he said.
