Public submissions on the Proposed Bay of Plenty Regional Coastal Environment Plan close at 4pm this Friday, August 22.
The proposed plan included new rules for mangrove removal, aquaculture and sewage discharge from boats. It also contained new policies for managing tsunami risk and identified four new Harbour Development Zones in the Tauranga Harbour.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council Strategy general manager Fiona McTavish said approximately 20 submissions had been received so far.
"Anyone that's involved in protecting or using natural areas in the coastal environment should take a look at the Plan. We expect to receive many more submissions before the end of the week, especially on the coastal hazards, biodiversity, mangrove and landscape mapping sections of the plan," she said.
