Otumoetai College, once again, has students creating ongoing outstanding academic success. This week saw a very positive night at the Young Innovators Awards for our students. Out of the 10 schools that entered the competition our students won a total of $6600 in cash and both of the runners-up won highly commended spots.
The junior category 1st prize of $1000, an extra $5000 for best overall innovation and the internship prize with product design companies went to Year 10 science students, Hayden Christie, Lachlan Farron and Frano Gabricfor their swim safe app, which identifies rips by using your phone to take a picture of the surf at the beach.
The junior highly commended award also went to Year 10 science students, Cassie Chapman, Roos van Gorp and Katelyn Wallbank, for their peanut allergy medical bracelet.
The senior highly commended technology award went to student Tessa Livingstone Pooley with her share chair machining templates for renting out to parent working bees to make eco school furniture.
The people's choice award of $600went toLucy Beaton, Blake Fairweather, Emily Farron, Annie Freeman and Jess Gadsbey who entered their business enterprise project walk the dog, a carry-all waist belt for dog owners.
