Smoke continues to pour from a house on Waihi Rd tonight despite the fire being extinguished.

Fire fighters were called to the flaming house on the corner of Waihi Rd and Michael Way about 5pm.

Senior station officer Len Sabin said the house was unoccupied when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Fire fighters had to force entry into the house and quickly extinguished the blaze on the bottom floor of the two-storey home.

The cause of the fire was unknown at this point, he said, but fire fighters were working with the home owner to establish the cause.
