Child hit by car at Mount

UPDATE 4.03pm: A child hit by a car in Mount Maunganui has been taken to Tauranga Hospital.

The child, believed to be 7 years old, was at the centre of a call out of emergency services at 3.20pm this afternoon to Maranui Rd.

Police northern communications centre Inspector Ian Brooker confirmed a child had been hit by a car but was not seriously injured.

It was not clear if the incident happened on a driveway or on the road, Mr Brooker said.

EARLIER: Emergency services are responding to reports a child has been hit by a car at Mount Maunganui.

A police northern communications spokesman said police were responding to a call from St John ambulance who were dealing with a report a 7-year-old child had been hit by a car about 3.20pm.

The incident is understood to have happened at the Mount Maunganui end of Maranui Rd.
