Western Bay of Plenty councillors will meet today to discuss the future of synthetic cannabis in the community.
The council's policy and planning committee's psychoactive substances policy hearing began at 9am at the Barkes Corner offices.
The meeting follows strong backlash from the Western Bay community who have shown they want the substance banned through a petition headed by Mayor Ross Paterson and protests.
The council is expected to deliberate on the submissions and adopt its policy on April 14.
