UPDATED 3.14pm: The section of State Highway 2 where there was a crash involving a car and motorcyclist is now clear.
Police were diverting traffic as emergency services responded to the crash, which occurred about 2.50pm at the junction with Omokoroa Rd.
St John ambulance have taken the motorcyclist to Tauranga Hospital. It is understood it is not seriously injured.
Police at the scene said the crash was a nose-to-tail incident involving vehicles travelling too closely behind another.
3.00pm: Northbound traffic on State Highway 2 is being diverted following a crash at Omokoroa Rd involving a motorcyclist.
Emergency services are at the scene, where the northbound section of the highway has been closed as they work to clear the scene.
Traffic travelling from Tauranga is being diverted along Youngson Rd and is backed up, understood to be travelling about 10km/h around the crash.
EARLIER: Emergency services are on their way to a crash on State Highway 2.
A car and motorcycle crashed near the intersection of SH2 and Omokoroa Rd.
It is understood traffic in the area is backed up.
The extent of the injuries is not yet known.
