Boaties are being warned to check their gear before going out on the water after a rescue near Matakana Island last night. The battery on a five metre Mako boat died just after 7.30pm and the vessel with four people aboard had to be towed in by the Tauranga Coastguard. A spokesperson said everyone on board was fine but it was a good reminder to check boating gear in the lead up to the summer holiday period.
