The large crowd that turned out for Tauranga's Christmas at the Races made it one of the most successful events of its type staged at the Cameron Rd race course, organisers say.
Racing Tauranga course manager Craig Settle said the race day on Saturday was attended by people of all ages.
Although final numbers were yet to be tallied, more than 1000 people had booked for the day.
"It was a good day out ... the public lawn was pretty full.
"It was a real good atmosphere and everyone behaved themselves, the weather played its part."
Mr Settle said there was plenty of kids' entertainment including rides, a visit from Santa Claus and a man who made balloon animals. Bands were also spread around the venue providing music for the day.
"It's probably one of the better Christmas races we've had."
