A man who held up a Tauranga service station is still on the run from police.
Detective Sergeant Nigel Grey said the man walked into the Mobil service station on Chapel St armed with a knife and demanded money about 8.15pm on Wednesday.
The attendant was co-operative and handed over money from the till. No one else was in the store at the time.
The robber was last seen walking towards Bellevue.
He was described as a caucasian in his early 20s of medium height and build. He was wearing a long-sleeved black top with Adidas written on the back and a hood hanging out the back of it, a black beanie, sunglasses, black pants and black and white shoes.
"We're seeking assistance from people who may have been driving around the area at the time," Mr Grey said. The station was closed immediately after the robbery while police searched the area.
Police photographed and checked the scene yesterday morning.
A Mobil spokeswoman said the company was assisting police with their investigation.
No staff were hurt but counselling had been offered to the staff member who was threatened.
"The safety of our staff and customers is a priority. Our approach to security includes the use of security cameras, having well lit forecourts and shops, minimising the amount of cash on site and staff training," she said.
