A Tauranga forklift driver accused of the attempted robbery of Summit Superette remains behind bars.
Harley William Annas-McGillan, 23, faced a charge of assault with intent to rob when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today.
The charge relates to him allegedly walking into the Superette at about 6.45am on August 2 with a BB gun and a knife, but when he approached the counter the shopkeeper brandished a hockey stick and chased him out of the store.
Police opposed bail but no bail application was made.
He has been remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday.
