Fire crews called to Tauranga Airport

Fire crews were called to Tauranga Airport this afternoon.

The shift manager at the Fire Communications Centre in Auckland said crews had been called after a strange noise had been heard coming from the cockpit of a light aircraft.

The call came in about 5.10pm

He said fire crews were called to be on stand-by as a safety precaution.

He said the light aircraft had landed safely and fire fighters were stood down before they reached the airport.
