Baycourt goes blue for royal baby boy

The landmark Tauranga building opened by Prince Charles and Princess Diana 30 years ago was last night bathed in blue to mark the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby boy.

Tauranga City Council events delivery manager Penny Mitropoulos said about 15 lights were used to illuminate the sides of Baycourt Theatre from 5pm to 10pm as a celebration of the arrival of the third in line to the throne, a boy born early on Tuesday morning (New Zealand time).

"I think it's a neat thing to do for Baycourt because back in 1983 Prince Charles and Princess Diana opened the building," she said.

It was one of 38 buildings and landmarks that were lit up as part of a Monarchy New Zealand campaign.
