A school bus driver who narrowly avoided hitting a toddler was treated by St John paramedics after suffering chest pains and a panic attack.

Police said the bus driver narrowly avoided hitting a 3-year-old girl who was standing on the road near the intersection of Bellevue and Windsor Rds about 2.20pm.

The bus driver took evasive action and suffered a panic attack. He felt unable to continue driving the bus and another driver was called in.

Police said the driver's quick actions had avoided a tragedy.
