Poaching accused to defend allegations

Four men accused of being involved in a major deer-poaching ring operating across the Bay of Plenty plan to defend the allegations.

Scott Stephen Darroch, 18, Bradley Duncan McKenzie, 19, Storm Panapa, 17, and his brother Maunganui Charlie Panapa, 24, all from Matamata face joint charges of theft of animals.

Darroch also faced an extra charge of unlawful hunting.

The four men were arrested in March following police raids.

The defendants' attendance was excused in Tauranga Registrar's Court yesterday.

Not guilty pleas were entered to all charges by the men's lawyers, and the matters have been adjourned to June 18 for a case review hearing.
