Four people were taken to Tauranga Hospital after a three-car collision on State Highway 2 near Pahoia last night.
The crash occurred on SH2 near the intersections of Pahoia Rd and Esdaile Rd about 5.45 as one of the vehicles involved attempted turning right, off the highway.
Gary Bishell, team manager at Mount Maunganui St John ambulance, said the collision occurred near road works and involved four people requiring medical attention.
A 72-year-old Mount Maunganui woman was travelling in a Rav-4 style vehicle when the collision forced it to roll off the road, skidding upside down into the roadworks.
The woman inside managed to escape the wreckage with a minor head injury that saw her taken to hospital.
A 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a minor back injury and the 27-year-old male driver of the vehicle she was in suffered a suspected fractured ankle.
In another vehicle, a 49-year-old Pahoia woman suffered seatbelt bruising and was taken to hospital.
