Car crashes into house in Waihi - driver taken to hospital

By Joseph Aldridge

A woman in her sixties has been taken to hospital after driving her car through a fence and into a house in Waihi this

afternoon.

The woman was believed to be driving home from Cooks Beach in the Coromandel, Waihi Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said.

``We assume she went to sleep and veered off the road and went through a fence and into an older house that was being done up.''

No one was at the property when the car smashed into it today however the house suffered ``quite a bit of damage'', Mr Stevens said.

``A little porch on the front of the house has been completely demolished.''

Mr Stevens said the female driver was injured in the accident and was taken to Thames Hospital by a St John ambulance crew.
