The woman was believed to be driving home from Cooks Beach in the Coromandel, Waihi Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said.

No one was at the property when the car smashed into it today however the house suffered ``quite a bit of damage'', Mr Stevens said.

``A little porch on the front of the house has been completely demolished.''

Mr Stevens said the female driver was injured in the accident and was taken to Thames Hospital by a St John ambulance crew.
