100 years on from the Waihi strike

This weekend marks 100 years since the Waihi Strike which claimed the life of Frederick Evans.

Labour historians, academics, overseas guests, locals and unionists will gather at Waihi to mark the occasion.

The programme includes a seminar examining the strike, health and safety issues, the role of women, the tragic death of Frederick Evans, the links with Australian mines and many other topics.

There will also be a book launch, art exhibition and concert.
