Annual business awards set to go

By Genevieve Helliwell

Leading Bay businesses are set to be honoured in the region's premier business awards.

The annual Westpac Tauranga Business Awards 2012, which have been running for more than 20 years, will be held at the TECT Arena at Baypark, from 6pm tomorrow.

The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Bay of Plenty Times and The Radio Network, is proud to present the awards, which are designed to recognise businesses achieving excellence.

Awards co-ordinator Anne Pankhurst, from the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce, said the awards were a way to showcase the region's business talent and pay tribute to those who made a positive contribution towards economic development and growth of the region.

Honoured on Friday night will be businesses that have achieved excellence across a range of categories, including workplace safety, brand marketing and design, customer service, community organisation, retail and service excellence, tourism, small business and manufacturing and logistics.

One local business will also receive the prestigious title of 2012 Business of the Year.

An inaugural award for corporate leadership is being awarded this year, with the Port of Tauranga as the 2012 recipient. This award has already been announced.

The MC for the evening will be Will Johnson from Classic Hits and the theme of the awards is 'Garden of Endless Possibilities'.

This year the format of the evening has changed, with the awards at the beginning of the evening and more time to celebrate and mingle in the second-half of the evening, Ms Pankhurst said. There are a small number of tickets still available.
