Police still hunt for on-the-run mobster

Police are continuing to hunt for convicted offender Mana Tangitutu who escaped from custody last week after being handed a prison sentence for family violence.

Since his escape, police have executed a number of search warrants in Kawerau and Opotiki to try to locate Tangitutu and they are now casting their net wider.

Tangitutu, 27, has the words "East Coast mongrel forever" and three large M's tattooed on his face and has been at large since last Wednesday when he escaped from a holding cell at Whakatane court.

Last week, Tangitutu had just been sentenced to four months in prison for violence against a woman when he slipped out of a holding cell.

A warning had been issued that anyone harbouring Tangitutu would face prosecution.

Tangitutu is known to carry weapons and the public are reminded not to approach Tangitutu but to report any sightings immediately via the 111 system.

Anyone who has knowledge of where he is should contact the police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
