Steamers visit schools

By Genevieve Helliwell

Some of the Bay's leading rugby players rubbed shoulders with the younger generation at Selwyn Ridge School today.

Bay of Plenty Steamers Ben Smith, Chris Noakes and Jack Wilson spoke to students about their rugby successes as well as school-yard bullying as part of the "no one likes a bully campaign''.

Principal Craig Price said it was an honour to have the Steamers visit the school and share their views as professional sports people.

While at the school, the players signed playing cards and autographs and gave away tickets to their next home game.

To celebrate the players visiting the school, students wore blue and yellow to school.

"The kids loved having these guys here today. There was lots of chanting, and praise for the team,'' Mr Price said.

"It was great to have them here. These guys are positive role models.''

Steamers players also visited other Western Bay schools today as part of the ongoing anti- bullying campaign.
