Dog attacks police dog

A Tauranga man whose dog allegedly attacked a police dog while it was tracking an offender in Gate Pa last month may defend the allegation.

Ruapurukamu Ti-Rohia Brown, 26, faced a charge of being the dog's owner in Tauranga District Court yesterday.

The attack allegedly occurred on July 20 in Dunkirk St when Senior Constable Kayne Cording and Yoda were tracking an offender.

Police allege Brown's 2-year-old crossbred Staffie jumped the fence, crossed the road and lunged at Yoda, then grabbed it around the throat. Brown is due back in court on August 30.
