A young boy was left screaming in pain following a collision with a motor scooter in Mount Maunganui this morning.
The boy, aged about 11, got off a school bus in Links Avenue about 8.45am and walked around the front of the bus to cross the road to Mount Maunganui Intermediate School.
At the same time the scooter was overtaking the bus and collided with the boy.
Head of traffic policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the boy was conscious and lying on the road when emergency services arrived.
He had a bump to the head, sore arm and grazes and was taken to Tauranga Hospital by St John.
Mr Campion said the speed limit for any vehicle passing a stationary school bus was 20km / hr.
