Foodbank tally rising, Appeal hits street

Bay of Plenty Times staff members along with Poppy, 4, Jack, 6, and Lily, 8, Russell-Quill (pictured) hit the streets of Otumoetai last night collecting cans for the foodbank.

The initiative was part of the Bay of Plenty Times Christmas Appeal, which has already collected more than $21,000 of cash and food items for the cause.

This week's tally, to be announced on Saturday in the Bay of Plenty Times Weekend, will be boosted by a can drive by the Tauranga City Sunrise Lions Club which collected more than 2000 food items at the weekend.

Bay of Plenty Times staff have already held can drives in Bethlehem and Mount Maunganui.
