$250,000 from police auction

The 17th annual Tauranga Police CIB charity auction raised a record $250,000 yesterday.

It was like a who's who in the business, social and sporting worlds at the auction, held in the new TECT Arena at Baypark.

The auction, which has been held every year since 1995, raised money for ImpacTauranga and Tauranga Riding for the Disabled Trust.

A lesser amount would go to support Christchurch.

Event organiser Detective Sergeant Peter Blackwell told the Bay of Plenty Times Weekend that organisers were still counting and more funds may be added to the final total.

"We are absolutely delighted. To raise a quarter of a million in this market coming out of a recession is a success story for the Bay and for all New Zealanders who support this event, and for the charities that benefit."
