Chance to shine for local women

By Sonya Bateson

Entertainers Jackie Clarke and Annie Crummer will be the stars in a cast of 100 local women in the Tarnished Frocks and Divas show.

Held every two years, the show aims to inspire women over the age of 40 and give them an outlet to do things they've never had the chance to do.

Clarke and Crummer will be the central performers with other parts played by local women.

Marketing trustee Lisa Ebbing said a full rehearsal was held on Sunday and it was the first chance for the cast and crew to meet each other.

She said it was amazing to see the women come out of their shells.

"We had ladies there in their 70s who were helping sew but were getting up and boogying to the music. There are less opportunities for women to get out there and it's exciting to be able to give them a platform, there are those that say they have always wished they were a dancer but never had the opportunity. This is their chance."

The show will run from August 28 to 31 at the ASB Arena. Tickets go on sale from May 9 at www.tarnishedfrocksanddivas.co.nz.
