Almost 4000 households are still without power in Auckland after this morning's strong gusts.
Power has been restored to over 6000 customers from Otara to Te Arai.
Lines company Vector says extra crews are on duty, to restore faults as soon as possible.
Those without power are being asked to contact Vector directly, and report any downed lines to emergency services.
Extra crews were brought on earlier this morning in anticipation of gale force winds, and crews are out working on the faults.
Motorists in Auckland are being urged to take care as the severe winds threaten to strew the roads with debris.
Winds are now gusting at over 100km/h through much of region.
The western coastline is bearing the brunt, with winds blowing at over 120km/h.
Auckland Civil Defence controller Clive Manley says people need to be careful on the roads.
He says drivers need to watch for branches and other debris.
