The owners of a bach in the fishing village of Kaiaua in Franklin reckon they have the right bait for prospective buyers - dropping their price by $100 a day.
The Trademe lister of the two-bedroom property in the Firth of Thames seaside town famous for its fish and chips and foodie festivals, is bravely dropping the price at a time when property values are rising.
Recent statistics from Quotable Value show the average house price rose $98 a day or nearly $700 a week over the past year.
But in areas such as Auckland's North Shore, prices surged even higher - to $289 a day, or $2,028 a week.
The 71sqm house on 1,171sqm land is described as "a fishing weekender, family bach at the beach or permanent living".
On September 5 the owner started the price at $284,000 and yesterday it was down to $282,500. It is understood interest in the bach has been high. "Who's going to take the bait first?" the owner asks in the online listing. "We will consider all written offers until the money's in the bank!"
The property is a two-minute walk to Kaiaua Beach and Fishing Club, a 45-minute drive to Auckland and 30 minutes to the Coromandel.
