VIEWING SPOTS
One of the best locations is the Pt Erin area, by the Pt Erin Baths. Here you will be able to see people coming off the bridge and heading up Curran St as well as those coming back down Curran St and heading around the waterfront. You'll also be able to see an aid station at work.
An added bonus is that this location is in walking distance to the finish line (along Westhaven Drive) and the tank farm area.
You will need to be aware that there are a number of roads closed in the area and access will become difficult from about 5.30am on. The first competitor is expected to cross the bridge a little after 7am. The bulk of runners crossing the bridge will be between 7.30am and 8.15am.
Another good spot where you can also see people coming over the bridge from Westhaven Drive looking back up to the bridge.
To see the Quarter Marathoners, and later the Marathoners in action, a great spot is the Parnell Baths over-bridge.
Of course the finish line on Fanshawe Street, leading into Victoria Park is where you'll have an excellent up-close view of everyone finishing the race.
GETTING AROUND
See below for information about road closures and expected traffic delays around the adidas Auckland Marathon as well as suggestions for alternative routes and timings.

Travelling from Takapuna to Devonport:
Avoid your trip until 8am as all the roads around the Marathon start will be closed as will almost all of the feed-in roads from Devonport, right up around Lake Road. Lake Road to Bracken Road will be completely closed and there will be restricted access to Esmonde Road until about 7:30am.
Travelling around Takapuna:
From Anzac Street to Taharoto through to Northcote Road, up Lake Road, across Onewa and down Queen Street to the motor-way on-ramp there will be some roads and their feed-in roads closed, and most of the area will only restricted access so best to put off any trips to the Takapuna Markets till at least 8:30am.
The bridge itself:
From 5.30am to 10.30am the 2 north-bound left clip-on lanes will be closed. You won't be able to use the Curran Street on-ramp and the whole area around Fanshawe Street will be very congested so if you need to cross the bridge during this time it would be best to Wellington Street. This also applies to getting off the bridge where you'll be directed to the Cook Street off-ramp.
