Once bitten, twice bitten.
Having sat through an entire weekend of Super Rugby this year in an attempt to re-engage with the national sport, I'm going to put myself through it again on the opening weekend of the World Cup in an attempt to re-engage with... Georgia? Japan?
What happens when you watch 640 minutes of rugby in a weekend
Truth is I've got no idea why I want to do this again. It's not as if I need to give my family any more reasons to shake their collective heads at me. Maybe it's the ultimate self-indulgence? Maybe it's just an excuse to stock up the fridge and do an all-nighter or two... on my own... pathetic.
The self-imposed assignment is to watch every game live and in real time and then write about my weekend (here's a clue, it won't involve much travel) in a Retro Diary, which will be on this site around lunchtime on Monday.
I will tweet various half-formed thoughts and nonsense during the games. Feel free to follow me at @dcleaverNZH and provide feedback. I won't necessarily respond to it - certainly not the abuse - but I will read it.
Alternatively you can email me your thoughts to: dylan.cleaver@nzherald.co.nz
Anyway, if you could excuse me now, I need to get some pre-loaded sleep.
