Tumultuous weather in Wellington forced flights to be diverted yesterday - including one that rattled All Black Dan Carter.
As strong gales gusted through the capital, flights were sent back to the airport they came from or diverted to other ports. Carter was on a flight from Auckland.
It is unclear which airline Carter was flying with, but a Wellington Airport spokeswoman confirmed the flight attempted to land twice before diverting back to Auckland.
Carter was on the flight and took to Twitter to share his experience when he got back to Auckland.
"Just returned to Auckland after our plane failed to land in WINDY Wellington. Wheels hit the runway before taking off again #scaryflight," he wrote.
Carter did not say if his wife Honor or young son Marco were with him on the flight.
The airport spokeswoman said there were "several diversions to other ports due to the weather in Wellington".
She said passengers were advised to check the airport's website for flight information or contact their airline to see if their travel was affected.
