A pilot was lucky to walk away from a light plane crash at New Plymouth Airport last night without any major injuries.

Firefighters rushed to the runway after the single-engine plane "toppled over" while landing just after 7pm. They checked no fuel was leaking and that the area was safe.

A St John spokeswoman said the pilot was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
