Sam Boyer is a police reporter for the New Zealand Herald based in the Auckland newsroom. He covers crime and justice issues, as well as accidents and emergencies. He has twice been named Junior Reporter of the Year at the Canon Media Awards, in 2013 and 2014. Sam joined the Herald in late 2013 from the Dominion Post in Wellington. He previously worked for the Bay of Plenty Times, where he was a finalist for the Student Journalist of the Year in 2012. He has an honours degree in English literature from Victoria University and a graduate diploma and communications from Massey University.
